Boho Beachy. Surf Shack Chic. Salty Modern.

Trying to capture this aethestic in a cute catch phrase is a challenge. Boho beachy...not to be confused by boho bitchy which can surprisingly be a thing!  Surf Shack Chic...like Gidget moved in and did a little makeover at Moon Doggy's place. Salty Modern...what my couch looks like after a beach morning.

It's a carefree, young, anything goes look, which means it's easy to overdo.  The style is like an old beach house which has gathered bits and pieces of flotsam and jetsam over time but got a furniture upgrade.  Reminds me of my Aunt Alice's beach house circa 1979.

This look can be described as layers of patterns, colors, and textures while maintaining a clean aesthetic. Well...as clean as sandy feet can be. It has modern elements and clean lines but with more personality. I prefer a color palette that starts with a white base, then adds elements of deep blues, burnt orange, aqua, bits of bright pink. Check out the following images to get an idea of the style.

This next one I would move into today...love everything. The weathered wood wall treatment, modern navy couch and natural wood coffee table. Yes, yes and yes.

A great example of this design is the Chandelier Surf Shack in Montauk, N.Y.   See the full article athttp://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2011/07/28/garden/20110728-SURFSHACK.html?_r=0.   To me, this is a fantastic weekend place, I just don't want to love here all the time. Too much wood. Too dark.

This is the look I'm going for at my little house by the sea. Any thoughts on putting a name of it?

and an ocean between it and me...

Welcome.  I live in a house by the sea in St. Augustine, Florida.  I am blessed. This blog is an experiment because I want to be more creative and I actually have the time to try to be. Kind of an ode to the life and style I hope to cultivate in my little corner of this island.  I'm learning as I go...obviously. Just look at the ugly layout. Ugh. If this turns into something special, I will pop for a custom design. Promise.

I should say...I adore Pinterest. Like obsessed. Right now, I am at 18.000 pins and counting. It's out of control.  I'm a reformed magazine addict, who uses Pinterest for my fix. So I hope to develop my favorite boards into this space.  If you aren't familiar, check it out immediately.

I love sandy toes, watching my son paddle around, sunshine, good books, beach glass, the smell of suntan oil (although I would never use it), the sound of wind chimes, warm breezes, lazy mornings, palm trees, travel, flip flops and looking at the stars. Oh and Disney.  I'm a ridiculous Disnerd.  And how could I forgot wine!  Sauvignon Blanc is my drink of choice. Feel free to send me a bottle. : )

In case you are wondering, the title of the blog comes from a beautiful song by Iron & Wine.  Hit up spotify (which I also love).
